The Syun-Ichi Akasofu Building is a five level structure located on the West Ridge of the UAF campus, facing south toward the beautiful Alaska Range mountains. Here, UAF scientists, as well as international researchers, work together toward the goal of reducing uncertainty in arctic climate change prediction. Conference Rooms are available for meetings, workshops and seminars. The Operations Office, Akasofu 415, is the contact point for Conference Room reservations, building keys, and other building services. The Akasofu building houses the International Arctic Research Center on all levels and both the Keith B. Mather Library and the GeoData Center/Map Office on the main level. IARC-JAXA Information System (IJIS) is on the 4th floor. The "Earth Viewer," a 50-inch XGA touch panel for satellites related information by JAXA, and a wall-sized map of the world are both located on the 4th floor as well. Regular Building tours are provided weekly from June through August. Group tours can also be requested during the Fall and Winter seasons. |
