IARC Synthesis Plan
One of IARC’s objectives is to reduce uncertainty in climate predictions. This encompasses our understanding of change, attribution of change, and future rates of change. It is an essential part of our efforts to help society prepare for and adapt to a warming environment, and it will require that we work in collaboration with our international colleagues.
A synthesis of Arctic research activities will facilitate development of an Earth System Model for the Arctic region, which no institute (or even nation) can accomplish singlehandedly. The components of the Arctic are interrelated and interdependent. Theoretically, a change in one variable can initiate a cascade of effects throughout the system. It is our hope that through cooperation and collaboration, we can grasp the meaning of these connections and thus achieve the level of understanding needed to confidently predict environmental changes in the Arctic.
